IT'S OVER! Klopp lauds 'historical' Liverpool win over Man City

Liverpool have ended Manchester City's unbeaten run with a pulsating 4-3 at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds took the lead after just nine minutes when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain produced a magnificent low strike from outside the box that left City 'keeper Ederson without much of a chance.

Jurgen Klopp's men kept up the pressure on the league leaders but as they've done all season, City responded with an equaliser.

With five minutes remaining in the first-half, Leroy Sane skipped past a flat-footed Joel Matip before releasing a thunderbolt that beat Loris Karius at his near post.

Nicolas Otamendi nearly gave City the lead shortly after the restart but what came next would flip the game on its head.

With the 'Fab Four' moniker dismantled after the departure of Philippe Coutinho, the remaining members took the game by the scruff of the neck with nine minutes of breathtaking football.

It was 'Bobby' Firmino who put Liverpool ahead, bouncing John Stones off the ball before lifting his head and chipping his strike over Ederson's head.

Sadio Mane's thunderous effort with his opposite foot doubled Liverpool's advantage, before Mohamad Salah pounced on a poor clearance from Ederson to score his 19th league goal of the season.

In typical Liverpool fashion this season, they made it incredibly hard from themselves by allowing Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan to get City back in the game.

It wasn't to be though as the final whistle blew and Liverpool were prized as the team that ended City's unbeaten domestic streak, which dates back to April last year.

Speaking after the game, Klopp was aware the win might have 'historical' implications.

"I think that's a game which proves why many people love this game," said Klopp. "That is football. That's how football can look if two teams combine quality and skills with attitude. Then it's possible.

"We were not gambling, but with our counter-attacks we thought, 'We can score the fifth one'. Even if you are with all your own players in the box, they can create chances.

"We were never safe. But I am completely happy because I think it's a fair result.

"Maybe when you look back at the end of the season, or in 10 years, you will say it's historical because it could be the only defeat for Man City.

"They are a really good side and I am really proud of my side that we could perform here."
