John Irving's role at Newcastle United is set to expand after Derek Llambias' resignation.
The Evening Chronicle says his exit has left a void in the boardroom. but it is set to be filled by a combination of Tyneside native Irving and current football secretary Lee Charnley.
There has also been a suggestion owner Mike Ashley would opt to bring in a chief executive.
Irving, though, is still thought to become a more prominent figure upstairs.
