Irvine happy to kickoff West Brom career with victory

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine was happy with a debut friendly win over Shrewsbury Town.

Victor Anichebe and Youssouf Mulumbu struck in the 2-1 victory.

"It was a good workout," Irvine told the WBA website.

"Shrewsbury are ahead of us in terms of their training so obviously it was going to be a test for our boys physically.

"We wanted to get a few of the players on for a bit longer than we managed at the weekend (against Bury).

"Everybody did 45 minutes at the weekend and we were looking to see if we could get a few more minutes into a number of the lads.

"It's still early days, there was a real mixed bag out there.

"We did some really nice things, scored two really good goals, created some good moves but we were careless at times as well.

"We gave the ball away with some poor passing and these are things you're hoping will improve as the lads train a bit more and certainly as we do a bit more work with them."
