Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given admits it's time for Giovanni Trapattoni to leave the Republic of Ireland job.
Given said there had never been tension between the Italian and the players, but the squad needed something different.
He told talkSPORT: "I just think people are looking for a change, they want someone new in with fresh ideas. It's time for someone else to take the reins and hopefully lead us to the next European Championship.
"One of the only things is the language barrier. Sometimes it's difficult for him to get his point across with his lack of English.
"We are small nation though and people shouldn't forget that. It is difficult to qualify for these major tournaments. We're competing against rugby, Gaelic football and hurling, that narrows the talent pool down. It's difficult to produce lots of good players."
