Ireland: Stoke players desperate to make amends

Stephen Ireland admits Stoke City players are desperate to amend their opening day defeat to Aston Villa.

He admitted the team simply weren't good enough against Villa - and that hurt the players.

Ireland told The Sentinel: "It wasn't nice for us. We were very frustrated with the result and the performance.

"It's something we have to correct now and it's something we are all dying to set right.

"All week it's going to be on our minds. It just wasn't good enough. We just didn't perform.

"Whoever scored the first goal was probably going to win the game. They came to defend and made it very difficult for us.

"It was a bit of a blow them scoring just after half-time, but we now have to move on."
