Ireland boss O'Neill confirms broken leg for Everton fullback Coleman

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has confirmed Everton fullback Seamus Coleman has broken his leg.

The 28-year-old went down in the 69th minute of the 0-0 draw with Wales after being caught late by Swansea City's Neil Taylor.

He is now on his way to hospital and will miss the rest of the season.

O'Neill said: "It's a bad break. He's a fantastic player, a fantastic character.

"It's a major blow. A major blow for the lad himself, for his club and for us.

"Apparently it wasn't the best challenge in the world.

"I haven't seen it back but I'm naturally disappointed. He's gone to hospital."

O'Neill added: "I saw Seamus' reaction immediately and he was holding his leg up. It didn't look good."
