Iraqi footballer Heidar Kazem was shot dead by a rival fan on the pitch after he scored. Kazem was playing for Sinjar against Buhayra in Hilla, about 100 kilometres south of Baghdad when he scored to put his team ahead.

Whilst celebrating on the pitch, a rival fan pulled out a gun and took aim at Kazem and pulled the trigger.

Emergency services rushed him to hospital but he died on the way from a gunshot wound to the head.

A man has reportedly been arrested over the incident.
