Iraq international striker Ali Abbas is expected to sign with Australia's Newcastle Jets today. The 23 year-old was granted an international clearance by the Iraqi FA earlier this year having controversially defecting after featuring in an Olympics qualifier against Australia.

Abbas has been playing in the NSW state league, but did enough in trials this week to win a deal with the A-League's Jets.
