Iran hold Thailand to nil-all draw

Iran have held Thailand to a 0-0 draw in Bangkok in their Group E Asian Cup qualifier.

Despite not getting what they went for, Iran coach Ali Daei said he was content with the point.

"We didn't come here for one point, we came here for all three, but we have to be satisfied with this result," Daei said.

"I had said before the game this would be a difficult match. We started well, better than Thailand in the first half. Both teams played good football and created good opportunities.

"My players played very well. Overall I'm very happy with the way they played today."

Thailand boss Peter Redi was also happy with the result after declaring Iran the favourites to top the group.

"I still think Iran are favorites but we've got as good a chance as anybody else," Redi said.

"They are a top side, they are very difficult.

"The Thai players acquitted themselves very, very well. We defended when we had to and we tried to create chances and possibly created the best chance of the game.

"They were two really tough sides," he added.

"Overall I'm pleased. It certainly gives us a real good chance, a foothold in the group. It is a good start for us."
