Inverness win proves Celtic has what it takes to win title says Wanyama

Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama feels the side’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle on the weekend has put them in a great position to take this season’s Scottish title.

The Hoops maintained their four-point lead at the top of the table thanks to Joe Ledley’s early goal and Wanyama believes the nature of the triumph has further strengthened the team’s resolve as they look to halt Old Firm rivals Rangers’ three-season monopoly on the trophy.

“We are a strong team mentally. That is why we are always winning at the moment because we have a very good spirit,” he said.

“For every match, we are going into it with very good momentum to win. We are not looking so far ahead and, if we do that, we’ll see where we get to and everything is possible.

“This game was difficult but we remained strong as a team. We worked hard as a group and managed to get the three points.

“These type of wins in difficult games are important for us so I’m grateful. It’s always hard to play the same team three or four times a season and it’s not easy to beat them every time because they come with a mentality to improve and get better.

“We are far away from the end of the season. At the moment, we just think about game by game and then we’ll see what happens.

He added: “We don’t look for the other teams. It’s just about our games and our performances.

“We don’t focus on what other sides are doing and we are only concentrating on winning our match.”
