Inverness boss Butcher: McKay deserves Northern Ireland chance

Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Terry Butcher believes striker Billy McKay has deserved another opportunity to play for Northern Ireland.

The 24-year old England-born attacker netted his second goal in two Scottish Premier League games in the 1-0 win over Dundee United on Saturday and Butcher feels he has earned the right to represent the country in their midweek World Cup qualifier with Russia.

"Billy was great again," he said.

"I think he deserves to get the chance to show what he can do for Northern Ireland against Russia in their World Cup qualifier in midweek.

"He buzzes around and is always in defenders' faces. He must be a real nuisance to play against."

Butcher was also thrilled with the performance of his Caley side who now sit on top of the SPL table with two wins from two outings.

"I'm very happy with the start we've made to the new season," he added.

"But that's all it is. We won't be getting carried away. It was a solid all-round display which I was delighted about.

"We would have won by more but we're happy with the three points."
