Italian giants Inter Milan's bid for Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano was a joke according to Reds boss Roy Hodgson. Inter, now led by former Anfield boss Rafael Benitez, threw in a bid for the Argentine which was laughed off by Hodgson who labelled it as a 'tongue-in-cheek' offer.
"I saw a fax the other day but I think it was sent tongue-in-cheek to be honest," Hodgson said after the Reds got over Trabzonspor in Europa League qualifying.
"The offer was so unbelievably far from a valuation it seemed to me the sporting director was putting the fax in to maybe satisfy people at the club.
"We didn't even bother to answer it, that is how ridiculously far from a serious offer it was."
