Inter Milan teammates turned on Mario Balotelli after his red card in Tuesday night's draw at Champions League opponents Rubin Kazan.
"We were able to get back on track after conceding the opener, but then with Balotelli's dismissal we had to grit our teeth to the very end," mused Maicon.
"I don't know what happened, but Mario needs to understand he cannot keep making these mistakes. He still has a lot to learn and, hopefully, what happened here will help him grow."
Captain Javier Zanetti also had words of advice for Balotelli, who has become just as famous for his disciplinary problems as his football skills.
"We got off to a bad start and had it all under control, but unfortunately in the second half Mario was sent off. We really could've done without that incident."
