Inter Milan's Mancini: Liverpool's Balotelli has gone 'downward' since he left Man City

Roberto Mancini has spoken critically of the spiraling career of Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

The hugely talented 24-year old Italy international has battled for form and fitness since moving to Anfield from AC Milan for £16million in the summer.

Mancini managed Balotelli at Inter during the tactician's first spell at the San Siro before bringing the enigmatic attacker to Manchester City in 2010 so is well-versed to comment on the current status of the former Rossoneri man.

"I have not heard from Mario since we worked together at Manchester City," Mancini told Corriere della Sera.

"He was still a kid when we were together at Inter. He would do anything I asked him and he also behaved well at City.

"It has all gone downward a bit since he left City. I thought he would do well at Milan, but it didn't happen.

"Mario is at risk of following the same path as (former Brazil and Inter striker) Adriano.

"I hope that he wakes up one morning and realises that he is wasting everything."
