Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli blasted Chievo Verona fans after yesterday's 1-0 win. The 19-year-old scored Inter's winning goal in their 1-0 victory over Chievo and was booed after going down too easily on more than one occasion.
Speaking after the game, Balotelli told Sky Sport Italia: "I want to say one thing. Every time I come here to Verona I understand that these fans disgust me even more."
Chievo president Luca Campedelli was furious with Balotelli's outburst.
He responded: "Balotelli mustn't dare to insult the people of Verona.
"He is a professional, he needs to accept that opposition fans will jeer him if he makes mistakes. Balotelli was not subjected to racist chants today, he was only whistled. The only racist noises I heard were from the Inter fans against our player Luciano."
Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino added: "If he really said those things about the city, then it's better he never comes back to Verona again. A player must learn to accept being jeered. The only racist insults I heard today were targeted at our player Luciano."
