The Daily Express says reports in Italy suggest that Inter will turn to Vermaelen if departing Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic opts to take his services elsewhere.

The Belgian international has struggled with injury this term and has fallen behind first-choice pairing Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in the Arsenal pecking order.

Indeed, there are suggestions that Vermaelen has already decided to pursue a fresh start somewhere else next season.
