Inter Milan legend Beppe Bergomi has put his hand up for the Italy U21 post.
Italy youth football is in crisis after elimination from the U21 European Championships and also the 2012 London Olympics.
"When the job was given to Gigi four years ago, they had already tried to give it to me," revealed former defender Bergomi.
"At the time I was coming off the draining Sky Italia commentary work for the 2006 World Cup and my head just wasn't ready.
"I was not convinced that I could work as a Coach. Now I read my name in the newspapers as a potential candidate. If the Federation were to offer me the post now, I would accept straight away."
