Inter Milan coach Mourinho admits performance wasn't best

Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho admits they weren't at their best for last night's 1-0 Champions League victory over Anorthosis Famagusta. Adriano secured the win and Mourinho remarked: “I agree it was not a fantastic performance tonight, but in the situation and looking at the result we are very comfortable in the group and can be satisfied. “Teams on home turf try to win and push forward, which opens up space for the opposition. We saw it many times this week, for example Barcelona at Basle and Arsenal at Fenerbahce.

“I admire the work Temuri Ketsbaia has done with this side, but they came here to defend and waited until the final 10 minutes to try something more. That is not criticism, it is the approach.”

Adriano thanked Mourinho for helping to revive his career with a new role, albeit one that makes him very tired.

“If Adriano sleeps well, trains hard and drinks only water, he can comfortably do this work for the team for 90 minutes. He is only 25, after all.”

Inter are practically qualified for the next phase after going three points clear at the top of Group B.

“I think the real Champions League starts in the knockout rounds. At times there are some surprises with big clubs not qualifying, but usually most of the 16 that go through are targeting the trophy.”
