Inter Milan coach Mazzarri: Worst performance of season

Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri felt they turned in their worst performance of the season for the 1-1 draw with Sampdoria.

Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri felt they turned in their worst performance of the season for the 1-1 draw with Sampdoria.

It was the first Inter game Erick Thohir had attended as new club president.

“I’ll be honest, the way I see football this was our worst performance of the season. We went too deep after going 1-0 up, though even then we hadn’t started that well,” Mazzarri told Sky Sport Italia.

“Too many players were below par today. Ricky Alvarez started ok, but after his booking he seemed tense and didn’t move well enough. Sampdoria remained aggressive throughout and they fully deserved the draw today.

“We had several chances to finish off the game with Fredy Guarin hitting the post, but we weren’t ruthless enough. A great team must bring something extra out to put the result beyond doubt.

“Sampdoria deserve credit for pressing us, winning their tackles and never giving in. Our intensity levels were off and that’s something we have to reflect on.

“Just as we deserved to win against Bologna, I have to admit we deserved to draw this game. This is not the Inter I like to see."
