Inter Milan boss Leonardo caused controversy with his team selection for defeat to Parma.
Inter chief Marco Branca confirmed Douglas Maicon and Thiago Motta were dropped.
"Leaving out Motta and Maicon is simply a technical decision. Wesley Sneijder is in the squad and is on the bench again due to a technical decision," director Branca told Sky Sport Italia.
"The Coach has the right to make the decisions that he believes are right."
It was reported the pair had not put in enough effort during training after the midweek Champions League exit to Schalke 04.
