Inter Milan coach Benitez delighted with Man City thumping on debut

Inter Milan boss Rafa Benitez was delighted with a winning debut against Manchester City.

The Treble champs thrashed City 3-0 thanks to a Victor Obinna brace and Christian Biraghi's screamer.

"I am very happy with the work done by the squad. We did everything we wanted to do and we did it well," he told the official Inter website.

"I'm pleased for Obinna and Biraghi who, despite being left-footed, scored a fantastic goal with his right.

"We're also so happy to feel the affection of the fans. We think that we gave them some good football and our objective is to keep doing that in the next friendly games."

Admittedly, Inter were aided by the fact Patrick Vieira was sent off against his former club for using an elbow on Marco Materazzi after just 22 minutes.

"Manchester City played aggressively, but that was useful for Inter, as we need that to improve our fitness levels at this stage," continued Benitez.

"It is always better to win, even in a friendly. We were organised, got off to a strong start and when we had the extra man knew how to take advantage of the situation."
