Inter Milan chief Piero Ausilio is proud of their swoop for former Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.
Ausilio admits Inter have been eyeing the Swiss for years.
He said: "When did negations start? With Bayern, at the end of the year. With his entourage and family, three years ago.
"His brother was here, and remembered the things we said before Shaqiri went to Bayern when he was not yet a complete player.
"We've maintained the relationship, so it was easier to reactivate talks. We talked in November, more or less when [Coach Roberto] Mancini arrived.
"He made it clear he wanted a certain type of player, and we put a few names on the table.
"The Coach told me that he liked him [Shaqiri] and we made the approach."
