After last night's defeat to Liverpool, Zanetti said: "We are extremely disappointed, as I think we played the game and had clear chances to put it back in the balance, but unfortunately the ball didn't go in. After we went down to 10 men, Liverpool were able to control it."
"Playing with 10 men in Europe is not easy, but we played well and gave it our all. I think we have the mentality of a European side and can still improve, so we have to keep working and focus on Serie A."
The Argentine veteran added: "We can consider next season and perhaps juggle our options, as it is very difficult to play for the Scudetto and Champions League in the same campaign.
"We have to make fewer mistakes and be more concentrated. Teams in Europe don't let you get away with a red card or a missed opportunity and Burdisso's dismissal changed the game.
"From what I saw, I don't know if Burdisso should have been sent off, but the fact remains we had clear chances to open the scoring before then and did not take them."
