Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti says coach Jose Mourinho was shocked by his omission from Argentina's World Cup squad.

Zanetti revealed Mourinho "didn't believe it" when he was dropped by Diego Maradona.

"Mourinho didn't believe it when he heard that I had been left out of the team for the tournament," the Inter defender told Ole.

"He found it very strange. Mourinho didn't give me advice or try to console me, though. We are football folk, we know that these things can happen.

"My mother found out listening to the radio. She was disappointed, as it was going to be my last World Cup and, like me, she hoped I would take part. To be honest, I find it more upsetting for those close to me than my own reaction."
