Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho says he should've quit Chelsea sooner.

Mourinho said: "My biggest mistake as a coach? Instead of leaving Chelsea in September, I should have left in July.

"Instead of a season where I only worked for three months in difficult circumstances, I'd have gone to a really big, big team because I had that big, big team wanting me."

It is thought he was referring to Real Madrid.

That summer Fabio Capello left Madrid but replacement Bernd Schuster has since been replaced by Juande Ramos.

In an interview for UEFA's Champions magazine Mourinho, now boss at Inter Milan, conceded: "Did I compromise myself to stay at Chelsea? Yes."
