Italian sources say Rafa Benitez would love to be reunited with his former Liverpool star at Inter.
Armed with a budget of €100 million, Inter chiefs have the cash power to meet any asking price should Real decide they can do without the Spain midfield schemer.
The stumbling block to any deal will be Real coach Jose Mourinho, who sees Xabi as a critical part of his midfield.
