Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder is stunned by his Ballon d'Or snub. Sneijder was initially among the favourites for the prestigious individual award, but missed out on the final cut at the expense of Barcelona trio Lionel Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
He said: "I heard that I lost a podium place. How is it possible, considering that I won the championship, the Italian Cup and the Champions League? In addition, I reached the World Cup final, which I was the top scorer, and I can still win the World Club Cup.
"It seems that the only thing that counts is the World Cup. This means that a player like Gareth Bale will never win the Ballon d'Or. Why? Wales will never win the World Cup."
