Intense Arsenal were energetic in Leicester win - Wenger

Arsene Wenger was over the moon for his Arsenal players after they came from behind to defeated league leaders Leicester City on Sunday.

Jamie Vardy opened the scoring at the emirates Stadium with a well-taken penalty in the 45th minute before Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck scored in the 70th and 95th minutes respectively to give the Gunners all three points.

Arsenal were helped by a red card to Danny Simpson in the 54th minute but it was the continued energy of the North London side that got them over the line according to a jubilant Wenger.

"I just wanted to make sure that we kept our relentless energy, keep going until the end and keep created chances to have an opportunity to come back," said the Frenchman.

"I believe that we put the right level of intensity from the first minute to the last minute in this game. We were mentally strong because being 1-0 down against a team of that calibre and coming back is very difficult.

"We finished the game with four strikers and Mesut Ozil playing as a deep-lying midfielder. We had to take all the risks to win it and, in the end, they didn't have the energy to come out and that helped us created chances."

The victory has third-placed Arsenal within two points of leaders Leicester and equal with second-placed Tottenham Hotspur who defeated Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
