Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos was furious with Spanish Federation president Luis Rubiales after the dismissal of Julen Loptegui.

Jugones on La Sexta reports Barcelona defender Gerard Pique had to meditate between Ramos and Rubiales so that they didn't end up fighting.

Eduardo Inda, the director of 'OK Diario', explained what happened: "The two [Ramos and Rubiales] squared up, no one hit anyone but everything was said. There was shouting from both sides."

According to Inda, "the level of tension was huge" and at one moment "Gerard Pique had to intervene and meditate so that things didn't get more serious."

Things kicked off when Rubiales asked for explanations and Ramos reportedly said: "This is crazy, we're going to be the joke of the World Cup."

Inda explained that Pique's input helped reduce the tension and that "in the end, [Ramos and Rubiales] shared a hug."
