Injury sees Sunderland move fall through for Wigan keeper Kirkland

Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has missed out on a move to Sunderland due to a collar bone injury.

The Mirror says Kirkland is facing a month on the sidelines with a damaged collar bone - putting an end to a bid by old boss Steve Bruce to take him to Sunderland.

Unlucky Kirkland picked up the knock in training and X-rays confirmed that the problem will keep him out of Roberto Martinez's side for several games.

However, Kirkland's injury may be a lucky break for Martinez, who has been fending off Bruce's attempts to take him to the Stadium of Light.
