Injury gives Federici opportunity at Reading

Olyroos goalkeeper Adam Federici will be thrown into the action in England's Championship for the next few weeks. Current number one custodian at Reading, Marcus Hahnemann sustained a calf injury in Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Blackpool and it seems the American will be out for several weeks.

Federici came on for Hahnemann with 20 minutes remaining in the match and now looks set to take over as number one, starting with Saturday's home fixture against Norwich City.

"As Marcus went to take a kick he stepped back and something pulled in his calf. And it's a fairly substantial calf he's got," said Royals manager Steve Coppell.

"My immediate reaction is that I'd imagine he'd be out of action for a few weeks. But Federici has been very patiently waiting and now is his opportunity. Again, we have great faith in him as a goalkeeper and we'll see what he's made of now."
