Injury forces Park Ji-sung out of Olympics

The United midfield man was originally included in the South Korean squad for the summer Olympics as one of the over-age players allowed, but trainer Park Sung-hwa has now revealed that the player's ongoing knee injury combined with the competition for places at the Premier League champions effectively forced his hand.

"It is with regret that we have decided not to summon Park Ji-sung for the Olympics," said Korea's Olympic coach Park Sung-hwa.

"After talking with the KFAs (Korean Football Association) technical committee, we made the decision because his physical condition is not perfect and he faces fierce competition for places at Manchester United," said Sung-hwa.

"His club sent an official document stating that Park Ji-sung needed rest for a while due to the problem with his knee," he added.
