Injury fears allayed for Derby's Savage

Derby midfielder Robbie Savage's foot injury is not as serious as the Premier League strugglers first feared.

Savage left Pride Park on crutches after Saturday's 3-0 defeat by Tottenham, amid concerns he had fractured a metatarsal.

But scans have shown the January signing from Blackburn has not broken any bones, though he has suffered severe bruising.

The top flight's bottom club are now waiting to learn how long Savage will be missing from Paul Jewell's plans.

However, Jewell did confirm that Savage's substitution against Spurs was not injury-related after Mile Sterjovski came on for his debut.

"I was not aware of the injury during the game, that's not why I brought him off," said Jewell.

"But that's Sav, even though we were one down he didn't really want to come off."
