Ings always going to Liverpool but we had to force Trippier to Tottenham – Burnley’s Duff

Michael Duff has revealed that Kieran Trippier had to be forced out of Burnley, when Tottenham came calling for his services.

Burnley lost two key players in Danny Ings and Kieran Trippier this summer following their relegation into the Championship.

Now club veteran Duff has revealed that while Ings seemed destined to leave, Tripper had to be forced out of the club for the benefit of his career.

Duff said: "Obviously Ingsy was always going to go, and I think we had to kick Tripps out of the door. He had to go and look after himself and his career. But I think that's why no-one would ever begrudge him.

"Ingsy the same really, although he played it a little bit differently. But no-one could ever accuse him of not trying, and what he did for the club was brilliant. And we made a bit of money on him as well."
