The 30-year old defender, who plays for Persik Kediri, almost found himself in Australia in 2007 when Branko Culina was in charge of Sydney FC and now the coach has taken over at Newcastle, Iba’s name has come up again much to his delight.
“Back then, Persik and Sydney failed to reach an agreement, even though I really wanted to play in Australia. But I’m a professional, so I had to obey my contract with Persik,” Erol said in a phone interview on Monday. “It just wasn’t my time.
“[Zenith Football Management managing director] Chris [Tanner] contacted me and said that Culina is still interested in me and wants me to join him at Newcastle Jets,” Erol added.
“Of course I’m interested, and now I’m just waiting for their confirmation.
“I will wait for Newcastle first. If their offer is good, then I will go there. I really want to play in another country before retiring from football.”
