A Premier League club, thought to be Manchester City, have approached cricket's Indian Premier League in a bid to buy a stake in one of the new teams in the competition. Two new franchises for 2011 onwards will be auctioned off before the third IPL season begins on 12th March.
"I can confirm an English Premier League club has approached us about buying a team," IPL commissioner Lalit Modi said.
"There is a very famous football club in the UK very interested in bidding.
"(They are) probably one of the most famous football clubs - probably top three.
"They are interested in taking a stake."
City's billionaire owner Sheikh Mansour is based in Abu Dhabi, which is reportedly seen as an ideal base for an IPL team, with the starting price for a franchise at £143million.
