Ince won't back down after clashing with Chelsea coach Wilkins

Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Ince offered no apologies after confronting Chelsea assistant coach Ray Wilkins at the end of today's 2-0 defeat. Ince had been incensed by Wilkins' remarks in the build-up that Blackburn were aggressive and over-physical, and he made his feelings clear in a heated exchange at the final whistle.

The incident overshadowed Chelsea's 2-0 victory, courtesy of two Nicolas Anelka goals, which sent the Londoners back to the top of the table.

Ince said: "Of course I was a physical character as a player but you don't play for the teams I did if you are just that. All the teams I have managed have played football.

"For him to come out with that garbage about us trying to put them on their a***s and that we are over-physical - well we weren't like that today, we played some decent football.

"I just said to him next time you are going to say something make sure you get your facts right.

"I told him that in no uncertain terms.''

Wilkins himself said the Chelsea players had proved a point after the midweek defeat by Roma, and did well in testing conditions of driving rain.

He said: "A lot of people would have said we might slip up today especially

when they saw the conditions so there was a lot of pride in this performance.''
