Ince will be given Notts County war chest if needed

New Notts County boss Paul Ince has stated that there is money available to spend at the club should they need it. Ince was announced as the new coach on Thursday following the departure of Craig Short after just 12 games in charge.

The former England international and Blackburn boss has appointed Alex Rae as his assistant and will be sat in the stands for the Magpies' game against Southampton on Saturday due to serving the final match of a touchline ban carried over from his time as boss of MK Dons last season.

"The chairman has said that if we need something as long as I'm not going to try and sign Wayne Rooney, then we can do it," Ince told Sky Sports News.

"But I think in the next four or five weeks we'll know where we're going to be and what we need to take this team forward.

"But it's a long-term project, and if we need money there's going to be some there, but not a lot.

"It's a tough start, but we're a good side and we can't fear anybody in this league."

Ince acknowledges that the club has been through some tough times of late, and that it was a huge challenge in front of him, but he was raring to go and relishing the opportunity.

"The club's been through a turbulent time over the last 12 months," he added.

"The chairman wants stability and they want to build over a period time.

"I always said when I left Milton Keynes, that whether it be Premiership, Championship or League One, I wanted to go to a club where I've got time to build, bring my own players in if I have to and go from there.

"It's a tough job; you can see where we are in the table. It's early doors yet and of course it's a tough job, any job in football is a tough job and they're not meant to be easy.

"But it's an exciting job and a new challenge for me and Alex Rae, and I'm always up for a challenge."
