Iheanacho the pick of Man City's academy – Al Mubarak

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak says Kelechi Iheanacho will be a star of the future.

City have often been criticised for blocking the path of youngsters from the academy by constantly bringing in big-money, world-class players to the club every year since the arrival of the Abu Dhabi Investment Group a few years ago.

However, Al Mubarak is keen to point out that the club have been investing in their academy as well and has earmarked Iheanacho to become a star for the first team.

"We are not there yet where we can say we have produced from our City Football Academy the quality of players making it to the first team," said Khaldoon on City TV.

"This year we have had good examples, players who have had their moments – (Jose) Pozo had his moment, we have a wonderful talent in Kelechi, a boy you can see will be a fantastic player for City.

"There are other examples, Angelino etc. So we are starting to see those talented individuals start approaching the first team – we have to keep supporting them and developing them but will not compromise on the first team."
