Former Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye admits he chose to join Aston Villa ahead of Olympique Marseille.

Gueye was unveiled by Villa this morning alongside former Nice defender Jordan Amavi.

The midfielder told L'Equipe earlier today: "My decision was always directed towards England. I never hid that when I spoke with Marseille. I needed a change of scenery.

"The most important thing was to get my feet in England for my progression and to look to play for great clubs in the future.

"There were a few clubs (interested) but I wasn't necessarily a priority. At Southampton I was number three (on their shortlist) and they never made an offer.

"At Aston Villa I felt good. They showed me their desire to have me. This is a league that should suit me perfectly. Box to box is my style and I think I will enjoy myself."
