Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn has insisted that the England national team's embarrassing defeat to Iceland will not be on departing manager Roy Hodgson's tombstone.
The 68-year-old resigned from his role soon after the 2-1 Round of 16 loss at Euro2016 and although it is seen as one of the nation's most ignominious results, it certainly will not define Hodgson's four years as Three Lions manager.
"We want to thank Roy on behalf of the FA," said Glenn in a statement.
"He spent four years building the team and we have a lot to be grateful for.
"It's important to call out his tremendous integrity. It's the mark of the man and we should respect that.
"Iceland will not be Roy's epitaph."
