I was angry before I grabbed my chance at Tottenham - Newcastle striker Mitrovic

Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has revealed that manager Steve McClaren's decision to bench him in the last two games left him angry.

The Serbian international appeared from the bench in the second half to stage a comeback in Sunday's 2-1 win over Tottenham, scoring the equalising goal for the Toon before Ayoze Perez won it for them in injury time.

"I was angry because I spent two games on the bench and I wanted to show that I deserved to play," Mitrovic said after his match-winning performance.

"Okay, I didn't say anything because I respect Papiss Cisse, he played the really well the last two weeks and he scored against Palace.

"And I respect the coach, so I didn't say anything and I waited for my moment. It came against Spurs.

"It is hard for anyone to be on the bench but I worked hard and waited for my moment.

"Every game I want to prove myself and I was concentrating on trying to score goals. I scored against Manchester City and against Norwich and it is the best feeling when you score and, like on Sunday, when you win in the last minute."
