I want to win the league, not worry about Arsenal - Tottenham boss Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino insists he is not bothered about solely trying to finish above Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur have not ended a Premier League season ahead of the North London rivals since 1995 but can do so if they avoid defeat to relegation-threatened Newcastle United next weekend.

Spurs fans are desperate to get one over their arch enemies but Pochettino says it should not be a goal of the White Hart Lane club to only want to beat the Gunners in their finishing table position.

"I think that I don't care about Arsenal, I want to win the league, I want to be on top but Arsenal I do not care about," said the Argentine in the wake Sunday's 2-1 loss to Southampton.

"Sure I want to be above them, but this I think is normal. But to try to improve, to try and be bigger, we need to concentrate on us and not look what is happening with our neighbours.

"We feel disappointed (after the loss), I think that our last game at home we want to win but we are disappointed."

Asked what his team needs to improve on next season, Pochettino added: "I think we need to put our energy in trying to win games like today.

"It does not matter if it is Southampton, Arsenal or Chelsea, we want to win, we want to be above them and now we are the same next season too."

Son Heung-min opened the scoring for Spurs on 16 minutes before Steven Davis scored either side of the break to inflict second-placed Tottenham's fifth defeat of the campaign, moving up to sixth place in the process.
