I used to clean Wise's boots for £25 tip…but only if he scored!! - Chelsea's Terry

John Terry has revealed the lengths he went to just to get by during the formative days of his Chelsea career.

The veteran defender signed a one-year contract extension with the Blues on Thursday which will keep him at Stamford Bridge for an 18th season.

?Terry, who made his debut back in 1998, has picked up 15 trophies and numerous individual accolades during his time in west London but it wasn't always smooth sailing.

?The former England captain used to act as the 'tea boy' for the seniors for whom he kept toilet seats warm and even cleaned Dennis Wise's boots for a tip.

?"I'd do anything for them," Terry said.

?"I'd make their teas and coffees, even silly things like sit on the toilet to make the seat warm for them in the cold winter days at the training ground.

?"It's bizarre when you think about it but that was part of growing up."

?Of his service to former midfielder Wise, Terry added: "I used to clean his boots and he wanted them perfect so I took really good care of them.

?"Every now and then he gave me a little bonus. Every time he scored I was on £25, which was half my wages at the time! I used to be praying we'd get a penalty or he'd score."?
