Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he substituted Matteo Darmian at half-time of 3-2 win over Southampton purely for tactical reasons.
Van Gaal replaced Darmian with Antonio Valencia because he believed that the Italian was not able to counter the threat of Saints winger Dusan Tadic.
He explained: "It was a tactical change because Tadic had a lot of space and was very dangerous for us. I wanted to eliminate that with Valencia and he did that very well I think."
