Hyndman accepts high expectations at FC Dallas

FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman has responded to fan questions posed to him through the team's official blog. When asked what his expectations for 2009 were Hyndman replied: "I think expectations are very high. When I say high, I think this team needs to get into the MLS Cup Playoffs, and then we need to have a bit of a run in the playoffs. Saying that, our expectations were high this past weekend for the season-opener.

"The players all were focused after eight weeks of preseason, to come up and get a victory. So, when you have high expectations and if you don't reach them, they're absolutely devastating blows to you mentally and to your concentration and your confidence. I can say, all the players, like myself, had a pretty miserable Sunday because we had set such high expectations. But I think the way you measure it is at the end of the year.

"Did the team come onto the field and play to the best of their ability? The thing that we can never control is, we may be a better team, but on that day did we live up to our ability? Or maybe we have injuries, or like this past Saturday, our team captain, Pablo Ricchetti, was unable to play because of a red card suspension from last year.

"Sometimes, it's a doubled-edged sword. You want to play competitive soccer; you want to play attractive soccer; but you want to get results if you don't have your full team on the field. Sometimes, you're starting off in a bit of a hole."
