Hutchison enjoys rapid rise at Middlesbrough

Ben Hutchison was thrilled with his Middlesbrough goal on debut in Sunday's defeat at Manchester City.

The 19-year-old poked home Boro's consolation goal at the City of Manchester Stadium in the closing minutes.

Gareth Southgate enthused: "Ben's goal was the highlight of the day as much as I am disappointed by the result.

"This was the best day of his life and he'll have an extra spring in his step over the next couple of weeks.

"Ben was bright. He made good runs in behind and did his best to perform."

Nottingham-born Hutchison was signed by Boro from Arnold Town two years ago. His performances in the FA Youth Cup during the 2005-06 season saw him watched by numerous scouts and, after scoring four goals in a 7-1 win over Dunston, he was signed by Boro hours before the January 2006 transfer window closed.

The transfer deal is worth up to £100,000 on appearances, says the Evening Gazette, and he qualifies for Jamaica through his grandparents.
