Sunderland hero Don Hutchison supports the appointment of new manager Sam Allardyce.
Hutchison wrote in the Evening Chronicle: "Given Sunderland's position in the table and where they want to go in the next few years, Sam Allardyce was the right choice to be the Black Cats' next manager.
"In fact, he was really the only choice for the job. They're in desperate trouble and need a complete mentality shift – Sam's the man to do that when you look at his CV.
"I've done a few bits of media work with Sam recently for Premier League TV and he's not really like he appears at press conferences or when he's talking publicly about football. He's a funny man and very personable and likeable, which is probably not the first impression that supporters will have of him.
"But there's also an aura about him. You certainly wouldn't want to mess with him – he's got a quiet authority about him and I think that if any Sunderland player gets on the wrong side of him, they'll know about it."
