Hutchings keen to introduce new style at Wigan

Wigan Athletic boss Chris Hutchings admits he wants his team to play with more style this season.

He said "We've had great success at the club and I would never knock what's happened before.

"But I felt that to go to another level we had to change slightly. That's what we are trying to do but only time will tell whether it's been successful.

"We are trying to pass the ball a little bit better than we have done in the past. That is down to the players we have got in, and is not being disrespectful to the players we had before.

"Last year we worked extremely hard to get the ball and when we had it, we probably played at the same pace. Now I feel we have better quality players who are comfortable on the ball and we are trying to play.

"Players such as Jason Koumas, Antoine Sibierski and Denny Landzaat know what it's all about. And when the going gets tough, you need cool heads to take the pressure off, and retain possession."

Hutchings has brought in seven new players - and former Newcastle pair Sibierski and Titus Bramble in particular have surprised a few doubters.

Sibierski has scored in all three games while defender Bramble has not put a foot wrong.

Hutchings said: "I knew what I was getting with the players I've signed and I believe in them all. The atmosphere at the club has always been good and we have some very good professionals in the dressing room."
