Former Wigan Athletic boss Chris Hutchings is backing the push for Titus Bramble to earn an England call.
"I just think Titus needed to play some games, and have somebody who believed in him," Hutchings told the Wigan Observer.
"I certainly did that, and he has shown some great character to come through some tough times.
"There have been too many people waiting to jump on the bandwagon and point out every mistake or bad pass he makes, and yet they never admit all the good things he does.
"He is probably near the top five in the Premier League for interceptions, clearing headers and tackles; people tend to forget that.
"I never thought it was a gamble to bring him in, and his form since has proved that to be true. I am delighted for him the way it has turned out.
"If he keeps performing as well as he has done then he will be knocking on the England door.
"We all know that John Terry and Rio Ferdinand are the first choices - but if Matthew Upson can find himself in the squad, then why can't Titus?"
